The Ossau Valley



The Ossau valley consists of protected landscape areas and valued by the farming activity that dates back to early history. The diversity of its civil and religious built heritage reflects the impact of its rich and dense history. The importance of traditions is reflected in modes of expression and expertise present very traditional. The industrial history linked to the marble quarries of farms, hydroelectricity, is also a strong marker of this territory.



The Ossau Museum (network of France Museums)

The ancient lay abbey of the seventeenth century which has remarkable architectural elements, houses the Museum of Ossau. The permanent exhibition focuses on archeology (hunter-gatherers of prehistory, first shepherds); Wildlife (rooms of the National Park); geology (volcanism Eres Primary and Secondary, etc.); Finally, strong elements of popular culture (woodworking, costumes, pastoralism, etc.). Temporary exhibitions complement these general themes.

The House of the national Park of Pyrenees

The Pyrenees National Park, established in 1967, is equipped with a natural, cultural and landscape heritage of exception that it is responsible for preserving.

At the heart of the Ossau valley, Laruns, the National Park House to discover the life of mammals and mountain birds.

The Vulture Cliff

400 m² of exhibition explain and recall the life of the various raptors through innovative and playful design: interactive terminals, quiz. Cameras installed in the nature reserve can observe vultures in their nests.

In the "cinema of vultures," a virtual guide discusses the unique images of the birth, growth and fledging of the chicks.

In Ossau valley, SHEM (Société hydroelectrique du Midi) offers a heritage and historical tour on hydroelectricity.
