The marble of Louvie-Soubiron
The quarries of the village of Louvie-Soubiron have offered two different qualities of marble: one veined of gray and blue is called blue turquin or Bardille marble, the other of a pure white so called statuary marble of Louvie or marble of the Virgin, and used since antiquity. The latter was extracted in the area with the evocative toponym of «Pene Blanque» which means, in béarnais, the white cliff.
